Soda Drink often trigger muscle problem

Excessive soda consumption causes decreased levels of potassium in the blood.

Soft drinks or carbonated softdrink is now a part of modern society lifestyle. In every place to eat fast food, soft drinks are always served as an escort.

In Indonesia, consumption of soft drinks may not yet too high. But in the United States, soft drinks could be said this has become daily necessities such as water.

In fact, practically fizzy drinks almost no nutrients. Besides high-calorie and cause obesity, soft drinks can also cause problems in bones and teeth.

According to the latest health research, too many soft drinks can also cause muscle problems. Muscle problems caused by drinking too much soda is called hypokalemia.

Patients with hypokalemia is decreased levels of potassium in the blood that cause interference with the vital functions of muscle. Symptoms may develop muscle weakness until the numbness paralyzed.

Research by scientists from Greece was done by asking respondents to drink two to nine liters of soda per day. Two of the participants were pregnant women who had received checks from the hospital and found to have deficiencies of potassium in the blood.

One respondent pregnant 21-year-old, consume three liters of cola a day. He admitted often experience fatigue, no appetite, and nausea to vomiting.

Through electrocardiogram instrument known he becomes blocked heart arteries and low levels of potassium in the blood.

While respondents pregnant consume only seven liters of soda a day for 10 months. He also experienced low levels of potassium in the blood and the weakening ability of the body muscles.

Both respondents had experienced a total recovery after quitting drinking soda and potassium intake received through the blood vessels.

The study published in the International Journal of Clinical Practice.

"We consume softdrink larger than before. And it affects the health complaints due to the increase of soda including dental problems, bone metabolism and diabetes syndrome, "said Dr. Elisaf Moses of the University of Ioannina.

"And now mengkhawatirkna enough hypokalemia is a problem that attacks the muscles."

According to Elisaf, the three main ingredients in soft drinks are glucose, fructose and caffeine is the main reason the trigger hypokalemia.

"But soft drinks products which include labels without caffeine can also trigger hypokalemia due fruktosanya content can cause diarrhea," said Elisaf.
